Who we are
The problem
In Kenya, those threatened or affected by violence face steep barriers to justice. In Nairobi’s informal settlements, a woman experiencing abuse may not know her legal rights, may fear reporting to the police, and often cannot access affordable, skilled legal representation. Even when cases are reported, corruption, intimidation, and delays can derail them. These barriers erode trust in the justice system—and broken trust becomes its own barrier, hindering community safety and development.
Our mission
Justice Pamoja exists to strengthen Kenya’s justice system so that it works for everyone. We ensure survivors know their rights, can access skilled legal help, and can pursue justice without facing further harm.
Our approach
· Survivor-centered casework – Connecting survivors to experienced lawyers and supporting them through the legal process.
· Community engagement – Hosting seminars in Nairobi’s informal settlements to raise awareness of legal rights and connect survivors to resources.
· Capacity building – Partnering with Kenyan lawyers, police, and social service providers to improve responses to violence and abuse.
· Systems change – Using case experience to develop evidence that informs reforms, making justice more accessible and accountable.
Our credibility
Our team includes Kenyan and international legal professionals with deep experience in criminal prosecution, survivor advocacy, and justice system reform—including leadership roles with USAID and International Justice Mission (IJM). We have trusted local partners and a clear understanding of both the law and the realities on the ground.
Our current focus
We are launching a pilot series of community seminars in Nairobi’s informal settlements to equip residents with legal knowledge and link survivors to representation. This early work will establish our presence, test our model, and build a pipeline of cases to drive meaningful change.
Our next steps
We are seeking partners to help build a survivor-centered justice movement in Kenya. Together—Pamoja—we can make justice possible for those denied it for too long.
