Following Through on Kiambiu
Funding casework from the survivors we met through Kiambiu Justice & Informaton Network
At our recent legal aid clinic at the Kiambiu, Justice Pamoja worked with Kenyan advocates and law students to serve 34 community members in a single day.
Many came with issues they had already tried to address—through police, local leaders, or other systems—but were unable to move forward.
The clinic was an important first step. The work now is to ensure that these matters do not stall.
Several of the cases identified at Kiambiu require immediate follow-up, including matters involving domestic violence, sexual assault, and threats to personal safety.
In these situations, legal pathways exist. But without sustained support—transport to court, help navigating procedures, coordination with advocates—cases often lose momentum.
Justice Pamoja’s role is to walk with clients through that process, working alongside advocates and training law students to provide consistent, practical support.
Some representative examples of the cases identified during the clinic:
A woman reported ongoing domestic violence but had been unable to move her case forward after initial contact with authorities, having been told the abuse wasn’t serious enough to justify investigation. She requires assistance to pursue legal protection and ensure her safety.
A case involving child sexual abuse and abduction will require sustained coordination with legal authorities and careful follow-up to ensure accountability.
Several clients raised issues related to child support, eviction and housing instability—often closely connected to family conflict and economic vulnerability.
We are working to raise $5,000 to support these cases and prepare for the next clinic.
Most legal services themselves are provided pro bono by Kenyan advocates and law students. Your support ensures that practical barriers do not prevent cases from moving forward.
We are seeking funding will cover:
Transportation for clients, advocates, and student lawyers
Court filing fees and administrative costs
Ongoing case coordination and follow-up
Modest stipends to support the time of advocates and student lawyers when they are required to appear in court. For instance, roughly $80 for a full day in court.
A group of early supporters has committed to match every gift, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500.
We have already identified the cases. Now we need to ensure they move forward.
