Justice Pamoja Workshop – Mukuru

Building Trust in Justice Systems to Prevent Systemic Abuse

Later in 2026

Mukuru is one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements—and one of its most vulnerable.

In recent months, our team has been exploring Mukuru as the site of our next legal aid clinic. This interest has been sharpened by stories emerging from the community, including those highlighted in The Vanishing Kids of Mukuru, a documentary examining patterns of child disappearance and suspected trafficking.

These stories are not isolated.

They point to a deeper pattern: when children and other vulnerable people experience abuse within their own communities—violence at home, neglect, exploitation, or lack of legal protection—they become more vulnerable to further harm, including trafficking and abuse by strangers.

What the Clinic Will Do

We are planning a one-day legal aid clinic in Mukuru that will:

  • Provide free legal guidance to community members

  • Connect survivors with law students and Kenyan advocates

  • Help clients understand their rights and next steps

  • Identify cases appropriate for ongoing legal support

  • Build trust between the community and the justice system

As in our previous clinics in Githurai and Kiambiu, this will be a collaborative effort between:

  • Law students (wakili wa kesho)

  • Advocates of the High Court of Kenya

  • Community-based organizations
